2020 National Youth Quiz Guidelines

1. PREAMBLE

• There shall be two (2) separate competitions for this year’s quiz. These are the BIBLE BEE Competition and the QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
• All Competitions at all levels should progress from Qualifying stages (Knock-Out) to Quarter- finals (Knock-Out), Semi- Finals and
• The Contest should start from the local level. Under no circumstance should candidates be hand-picked for the District, Area, Zonal and Grand Finale Competitions.

1. AGE LIMITS

JUNIOR: 13 to 19 years SENIOR: 20 to 35 years

• Contestants should not exceed the age limit by the time of the competition. Those who would want to graduate to grand finale should not exceed age limit by the time of the grand finale.
• Candidates’ Birth Certificates will be inspected at the Grand Finale.

1. COMPETITION ONE (1): BIBLE BEE

• This segment creates the avenue for contestants to compete based on the number of verses of the Bible they have committed to memory.
• All Contestants will be paired to compete. The contestant that wins will proceed to the next level until we get to the finals.
• This is intended to raise a champion for the Bible Bee who will be awarded.
• Where the number of contestants is odd, one of the groups will comprise three contestants and the winner will proceed to the next level.
• It will be a reciprocal recitation. That is, when one group recites a given number of verses, the contestant will also recite and vice versa.
• Contestants will be given a number of verses to recite within a given time as follows;

Local Level

Round 1

Contestants will recite a-2 verse Scripture in 10 seconds (10s)

 

Round 2

Contestants will recite a- 5 verse Scripture in 25 seconds (25s)

Round 3

Contestants will recite a-10 verse Scripture in 50 seconds (50s)

Round 4

Contestants will recite a-20 verse Scripture in 100 seconds (1m 40s)

Round 5

Contestants will recite an-50 verse Scripture in 250 seconds (4m 10s)

Round 6

Contestants will recite a-100 verse Scripture in 500 seconds (8m 20s)

v’ If after Round 6, the contestants are still in the competition, further rounds will be given to cover 200 verses, 300 verses and so on.

District Level

Round 1

Contestants will recite a-2 verse Scripture in 10 seconds (10s)

Round 2

Contestants will recite a- 5 verse Scripture in 25 seconds (25s)

Round 3

Contestants will recite a- 20 verse Scripture in 100 seconds (1m 10s)

Round 4

Contestants will recite a-50 verse Scripture in 250 seconds (4m 10s)

Round 5

Contestants will recite an-100 verse Scripture in 500 seconds (8m 20s)

Round 6

Contestants will recite a-150 verse Scripture in 750 seconds (12m 30s)

v’ If after Round 6, the contestants are still in the competition, further rounds will be given to cover 250 verses, 350 verses and so on.

Area Level

Round 1

Contestants will recite a-2 verse Scripture in 10 seconds (10s)

Round 2

Contestants will recite a- 10 verse Scripture in 50 seconds (50s)

Round 3

Contestants will recite a-50 verse Scripture in 250 seconds (4m 10s)

 

Round 4

Contestants will recite a-100 verse Scripture in 500 seconds (8m 20s) Round 5

Contestants will recite an-150 verse Scripture in 750 seconds (12m 30s) Round 6

Contestants will recite a-200 verse Scripture in 1000 seconds (16m 40s)

v’ If after Round 6, the contestants are still in the competition, further rounds will be given to cover 300 verses, 400 verses and so on.

Zonal Level

Round 1

Contestants will recite a- 5 verse Scripture in 25 seconds (25s)

Round 2

Contestants will recite a- 10 verse Scripture in 50 seconds (50s)

Round 3

Contestants will recite a-50 verse Scripture in 250 seconds (4m 10s)

Round 4

Contestants will recite a-150 verse Scripture in 750 seconds (12m 30s)

Round 5

Contestants will recite an-200 verse Scripture in 1000 seconds (16m 40s)

Round 6

Contestants will recite a-250 verse Scripture in 1250 seconds (20m 50s)

v’ If after Round 6, the contestants are still in the competition, further rounds will be given to cover 350 verses, 450 verses and so on.

Grand Finale

Round 1

Contestants will recite a-5 verse Scripture in 25 seconds (25s)

Round 2

Contestants will recite a- 10 verse Scripture in 50 seconds (50s)

Round 3

Contestants will recite a-50 verse Scripture in 250 seconds (4m 10s)

Round 4

Contestants will recite a-150 verse Scripture in 750 seconds (12m 30s)

 

Round 5

Contestants will recite an-200 verse Scripture in 1000 seconds (16m 40s)

Round 6

Contestants will recite a-300 verse Scripture in 1500 seconds (25m)

v’ If after Round 6, the contestants are still in the competition, further rounds will be given to cover 400 verses, 500 verses and so on.

• Every verse of scripture is expected to be recited in five (5) seconds.
• Recitation will take into consideration accuracy, clarity and interactivity of participants.
• All recitation should strictly be from English Standard Version (ESV) only.
• Any verse that is quoted wrongly or paraphrased or not clearly heard will not attract any mark.
• Any verse once recited will not be repeated in subsequent rounds.
• This competition shall be on Individual basis. That is, every Local/District/Area/Zone is expected to present only one candidate for this competition.
• The results of the Bible Bee will not be added to the main quiz.

v’ Judging

• There will be a team of 3-6 judges with digital bibles who will check and confirm all scriptures recited.
• The coach (es) of the opposing contestant may also challenge the accuracy of memory verses by appealing to the Quiz Committee.

v’ Scoring

Every memory verse recited correctly will attract 1 mark.

1. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS SESSION(S)

During this session, participants would be tested in the following areas:

1. Old Testament
2. New Testament

• Church History & Current Affairs And National Church Affairs

1. Bible Study & Home Cell Manual, Devotional Guide.
2. Doctrine of CoP, Vision 2023 & Youth Ministry Vision.

• On the day of the quiz competition, detailed instructions would be provided on the question papers.
• The National Quiz Committee will only supply questions for the Area, Zonal and Grand Finale Competitions.

1. PROBLEM OF THE DAY

This would be attempted by those who qualify to Level 2

• Printed questions would be given to candidates to answer.
• The Quiz Master will collect scripts, mark and add the marks to the groups’ already earned marks.

1. PARTICIPATION

• Each Local/District, Area and Zone would be represented by 2 participants for each category.
• The Candidates who qualify from the Local should progress to District, Area, Zone and Grand Finale.
• Candidates who are hand- picked from the local without having gone through any competition at the local level will be disqualified.
• Again, candidates who are selected from different Districts for Area and Zonal competitions would be disqualified at the Grand Finale.

1. STANDARDIZATION OF QUIZ QUESTIONS

• All answers should strictly be given from the English Standard Version (ESV)

1. ANSWERING OF QUESTIONS
2. The quiz would be held in two levels; Level 1 and 2
3. All contestants will participate in level one but participation in the second level would strictly be by merit.

 

1. Level One
2. All contestants will participate in this level.
3. There shall be three (3) rounds in this level
4. Each Local/District/Area/Zone would have 15 major questions which will cover all the areas of study.
5. No Local/District/Area/Zone would be given more than 15 major questions unless in the case of a tie where questions would be asked to break the tie.
6. When participating Locals/Districts/Areas/Zones are 7 or more, only the first 5 winners would qualify for the next level.
7. For participating Locals/Districts/Areas/Zones with less than 7, that is 6 and below, the first 3 would qualify for the next level.
8. Level Two
9. Each candidate would answer 10 major questions which will cover all areas of study.
10. No candidate would be given more than 10 major questions unless in the case of a tie where questions would be asked to break the tie.
11. Candidates at this level will participate in answering the Problem of the Day. 3. Marks obtained at this level would be added to marks already earned from level one.

• Those with the highest marks after computing the marks of level one and level two would emerge as winners.

1. GUESTS OF HONOUR

Area Youth Pastors/Leaders are required to invite Guest (s) of honour to join the Area Head at the Area and Zonal Level Competitions. Other dignified people outside the church may be invited in consultation with leadership.

1. VIDEO COVERAGE

Area Youth Pastors/Leaders are also required to take a nice high quality video coverage of the competition at the Area and zonal Levels which can be shown on PENT TV and/or the Youth Ministry’s Social Media Handles. The setting for the programme should be very nice and suitable for public consumption. Copies of the Video Coverage on Pendrives are to be sent to the Youth Ministry Directorate through the National Quiz Master.

 

1. AWARDS

Leaders at all levels of the competition are required to give handsome awards to Contestants. Awards should include Certificates.

Local: By the end of May 2020

District: By the end of June 2020

Area: Bible Bee on 17^th July and Main Quiz on 18^th July, 2020

Zonal: Bible Bee on 18^th September and Main Quiz on 19^th September, 2020

Grand Finale: Bible Bee on 30^th October and the Main Quiz on 31^st October, 2020

at Takoradi.
