EMBRACE PRAYER AND EVANGELISM; APOSTLE DR. COL. B. G. KUMI-WOODE ADVISES THE YOUTH

At the ongoing PENSA Ghana Leaders’ Retreat, Apostle Dr. Col. Benjamin G. Kumi-Woode delivered a powerful message encouraging youth leaders to prioritize prayer and evangelism in their Christian leadership roles on campus. Speaking on day two of the retreat, he addressed the topic “Evangelism and Prayer as Intergenerational PENSA Ideals and Heritage.”

Apostle Kumi-Woode emphasized that PENSA (Pentecost Students and Associates) has established principles and ideals that define its identity. He explained that these ideals, drawing from the Cambridge dictionary definition, represent principles and behaviors of a very high standard. Heritage, he noted, refers to valued qualities passed down through generations.

The speaker referenced several biblical passages to illustrate his points. He drew parallels between the experiences of ancient biblical figures and the ideals and heritage that PENSA seeks to uphold. Citing Exodus 1:1-10 and Deuteronomy 33:13-16, he highlighted how encounters with God became foundational to ministry and heritage.

“A definite encounter with God leaves an ideal, foundation of ministry, and heritage for us,” Apostle Kumi-Woode stated, referencing the story of Moses and the burning bush. He further illustrated this point with examples from 2 Kings 2:12 and 13:14, showing how divine encounters shaped the ministries of Elijah and Elisha.

The apostle stressed the importance of personal growth, stating, “Your inner man must grow with age” using his time at PENSA KNUST during his school time with some ministers of the Church of Pentecost who devoted their lives to prayer and evangelism. Notable among them were Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi Larbie, Apostle Samuel Osei Asante, Apostle Otu Appiah, and others. He used the conversion of Saul (later known as Paul) in Acts 9:1-6 and 22:6-9 as an example of how transformative encounters with God can establish lasting ideals and foundations in a person’s life.

In conclusion, Apostle Kumi-Woode’s message resonated with the young leaders, challenging them to embrace these time-honored principles of prayer and evangelism. As PENSA continues to shape the next generation of Christian leaders, this call to maintain its spiritual heritage serves as a reminder of the organization’s core values and mission.

The ongoing PENSA Ghana Leaders’ Retreat also aims at sharpening the prayer life of youth leaders to influence their spheres and to make a significant impact on their campuses and beyond.
