Sawla Area, SOM Coordinator Celebrate International Day Of The Girl Child

In a significant step to empower girls beyond the church walls, the Women’s Ministry of the Sawla Area, in collaboration with the Schools Outreach Ministry (SOM) of The Church of Pentecost, has celebrated the United Nations’ International Day of the Girl Child.

This year’s event was observed on October 11, 2024, under the theme, “Girls’ Vision for the Future: Unleashing the Girl Child for an Impactful Future.”

The Sawla area, led by Pastor Frederick and Mrs. Joana Mina Obboh, organised a special event at the Pentecost Preparatory School, Bole aimed at reaching out to young girls and promoting holistic development.

The event was graced by the National Coordinator for the Schools Outreach Ministry, Pastor Frank Mensah Tandoh, who shared an inspiring message titled, “Hadassah: The Model Woman,” based on Esther 2 and 4.

He stated that God has a divine purpose for all persons. He explained that just like the slave girl Esther who later became queen in Babylon, God has a plan for each girl’s future (Esther 2:5-7).

He, therefore, entreated young girls to take responsibility of their life by honouring the beauty God has given them to keep themselves pure for Christ and their future husbands (Esther 2:9). He further advised them to be obedient and respectful to their parents, guardians, teachers, religious leaders, and also embody hard work, modesty in dressing and prioritize their spiritual growth through regular Bible reading and prayer.

The pupils were led in a prayer session by the Area SOM Coordinator, Probationary Overseer Isaac Brobbey Boadu, resulting in 30 students making the decision to accept Jesus Christ into their lives.

Each girl received essential items, including sanitary pads, exercise books, pens, mathematical sets, and devotional guides from the Schools Outreach Ministry.

Special guests at the event included Deaconess Angelina Boerima (Sawla Area Women’s Ministry Leader), Pastor Godfred Osei-Frimpong (Bole District Minister), Deaconess Cecilia Gakpetor (Bole District Women’s Ministry Leader), Elder Nathan Kwasi Goloto (Headmaster of the school), staff, among others.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Schools Outreach Ministry and the Sawla Area Women’s Ministry for their generosity and the time spent empowering our girls.
