The Digital World Is The New Evangelism Space – Youth Director Reveals

Apostle Ebenezer Hagan, Youth Director of The Church of Pentecost, is calling young Christians to rise as digital champions, stressing that the digital space has become a new frontier for ministry.

According to him, God is inviting believers to join Him in this space, where the potential for Kingdom impact is immense.

He said this on Monday, September 23, 2024 at the Trinity Theological Seminary in Accra during a one day summit dubbed: “Digital Champions Summit 2024”, aimed at training digital missionaries for the advancement of the Kingdom of God.

“This is the new space for ministry. God is waiting for leaders to join Him in that space,” Apostle Hagan declared, highlighting the urgency of the call.

He described a digital champion as more than just a proficient tech user. “A digital champion is an individual who is strong, competent, and proficient in the use of technology, but most importantly, they are strong Christians. They know that in the Christian frame, they are ministers,” Apostle Hagan explained.

According to him, these digital champions understand their role as more than mere consumers of content—they see themselves as vessels through which God can bring transformation to the digital world.

In a time of rapid technological advancement, Apostle Hagan pointed out that digital platforms have increasingly become influential in shaping society, fostering connections, and creating online communities.

Yet, he also highlighted the many challenges in this space, such as misinformation, cyberbullying, mental health issues, and the risk of addiction.

“Young Christians, as digital natives, are uniquely equipped to navigate this terrain,” Apostle Hagan noted, recognizing their inherent ability to use technology for good. “They can leverage their technical skills and platforms for ministry, turning challenges into opportunities for evangelism.”

Apostle Hagan believes social media is a powerful tool for outreach, discipleship, and sharing the Gospel.

“Social media, blogs, podcasts, and online communities are prime locations for evangelism,” he emphasized. Referring to 1 Corinthians 9:22, he said, “In the digital space, we can become all things to all men and transform it for good.”

He continued, “Digital champions are marked by responsibility. They are mindful of their voices and walk within the frame of the Word of God, using their platforms to create meaningful impact.”

Apostle Hagan encouraged young Christians to take up blogging, podcasting, and content creation as means of spreading the Word of God. However, he cautioned that becoming an effective digital evangelist requires more than just technical knowledge.

“To be a true online media evangelist, you must be spiritually grounded,” he advised. “Develop a strong prayer life, immerse yourself in the Word of God, and ensure that everything you post, share, and engage with on social media reflects your Christian values.”

In addition to spiritual maturity, Apostle Hagan stressed the importance of acquiring digital skills such as content creation, social media management, and even coding.

“We must be innovative in how we share the Gospel online,” he said. “Let’s use the tools of this age to engage the world, while always aligning our actions with the teachings of Christ.”
