Unleash to Go and Tell: A Call We Cannot Ignore

In a world full of distractions, pressures, and comfort zones, one of the clearest and most urgent commands from Jesus Christ still echoes across generations: “Go and tell.” This is not just a church slogan or a theme for a youth retreat—it is the heart of the gospel mission. It is the last great command of our Savior before He ascended into heaven (Matthew 28:19-20). And it remains His will for every believer today.

One of the most powerful examples of this call to share good news is found in an unlikely place, in the story of four lepers during a time of great famine in Samaria (2 Kings 7). These men were outcasts, excluded from society, rejected, and likely forgotten. Yet God used them to bring hope to an entire city. In the midst of famine, the city of Samaria was under siege. Hunger had reached unbearable levels—so dire that the Bible tells us some mothers resorted to boiling their own children just to survive. It was a time of despair, hopelessness, and unimaginable suffering.

Then, something unexpected happened. These four lepers, in desperation, ventured into the camp of the enemy, the Assyrians, only to find it abandoned. The Lord had caused the army to flee, leaving behind all their food, riches, and supplies. The lepers, overwhelmed with joy, began to eat, drink, and take for themselves the abandoned possessions. But in the middle of their comfort, they paused. They said to one another: “We are not doing right. This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves.”(2 Kings 7:9, NIV) Therefore, they made a life-changing decision: They went back to the city to share the good news.

This ancient story is more than just a historical account. It mirrors a spiritual reality that confronts every Christian today. Like the lepers, we have found something far greater than food—we have found life in Jesus Christ. We have tasted grace, forgiveness, and peace. We were once spiritual outcasts, but now we are brought near by the blood of Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:13). Yet the world around us is starving. Not for bread and water, but for truth, love, and salvation. People are perishing without Christ every day—living in spiritual famine. And the question is: Will we keep the good news to ourselves or will we ‘Go And Tell?’

Jesus didn’t save us just so we could enjoy heaven one day. He saved us so we could become His witnesses here and now. The Christian life was never meant to be passive. There is no neutral ground. If we are not moving forward in faith and service, we begin to drift backward. The secret to spiritual growth is simple: obedience and action. The lepers could have stayed in the comfort of the enemy’s camp. But they chose compassion over selfishness. They realized that salvation is not complete until it is shared.

Too many Christians today remain silent. We talk about everything—sports, politics, fashion, business—but stay quiet when it comes to Jesus. Why is this so? Perhaps the reason many find it difficult to share their faith is that they are not fully confident in their own salvation. But when you’ve truly experienced the transforming power of Christ, you can’t stay silent.

This call is especially urgent for young people. Youth have energy, passion, influence, and boldness. The Great Commission is not just for pastors or missionaries—it is for every believer, including the young.  You don’t need a stage or a microphone to start. Start with your friends, your classmates, your neighbors. Tell them what Jesus means to you. Share your testimony. Invite them to church.

Go and tell. Let’s not make the mistake of thinking salvation is just an escape from Hell. That mindset is selfish and shallow. We were saved to serve, to be the light of the world, and to proclaim the good news that Jesus saves. If four outcast lepers could bring hope to a dying city, what excuse do we have as youth? Let us not delay. Let us not hesitate. The time is now. Let us go and tell.
